Miami landed another five-star commit for the future when Diamante Howard, a sophomore linebacker at Miami Southridge, committed Thursday.
Howard is rated by 247Sports as a five-star prospect, the No. 2 outside linebacker in the 2019 class and No. 42 player overall. He isn’t the top-rated commit in Miami’s class, either: that honor goes to Pahokee cornerback Akeem Dent, a five-star, No. 1 at his position and No. 18 in the class. Miami’s other commit for 2019, 6-2, 207-pound outside linebacker Jesiah Pierre, is not yet rated.
Canesport reported Howard, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, plays outside linebacker, middle linebacker and defensive end in high school but wants to be a safety in college.
According to Canesport, Howard is the second cousin of beloved late UM safety Sean Taylor, who died in 2007. He hopes to wear Taylor’s No. 26 at UM.
Last season Howard had five sacks and 20 tackles in four games after moving up from junior varsity.
It seems defensive coordinator Manny Diaz thinks of Howard as a linebacker, but they have a while to figure that out.
