#22 Robert Burns

HT/WT/40: 5-11/205/4.58

RB
Gulliver Prep HS
(Miami, FL)2/23/15 – he pipeline between Miami and nearby Gulliver Prep continued to strengthen on Monday morning, as standout 2017 running back Robert Burns committed to the Hurricanes:
Yes! It’s official: I have verbally committed to the University of Miami #Canes @Rivals @BleacherReport @SFHSSports L pic.twitter.com/CkhJZ6tlXY
— Robert Burns (@RobertBurns_) February 23, 2015

The 5’10”, 210-pound prospect becomes the fourth p_layer_ from the Miami-Dade County institution to pledge to Miami since last summer. That group includes teammates Joseph Jackson (defensive end), Cedrick Wright (safety) and Dionte Mullins (wide receiver), who are each members of the 2016 class.
Burns became the program’s next coveted recruit with strong underclassman campaigns. The speedy sophomore has developed a reputation as a playmaker who is capable of taking it the distance regardless of where he receives the football.
He is tremendously agile, a credit to sustained balance in the trenches and beyond. Burns exhibits excellent bend, building momentum that results in violent collisions at the point of contact.
His size at this stage suggests he could eventually develop into a physical specimen with workhorse potential in college. Burns’ blend of burst and physicality brings a balanced approach to the offensive backfield.

This time, Class of 2017 linebacker Waynmon Steed committed to the Hurricanes. The state champion linebacker had 83 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack last season.

Steed added that there are two additional attributes that stand out about him.
“I want to be a leader on and off the field,” he said. “And I have strong work ethic.”

#2 Nick Roberts

HT/WT/40: 5-11/177/4.45

CB
Oakleaf HS
(Orange Park, FL)8/9/15 – Nick Roberts, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback out of Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf, becomes commitment No. 9 in Miami’s 2017 recruiting haul.
Another defensive standout out of Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf is off the board and committed to Al Golden and the University of Miami. Nick Roberts, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back who’s about to kick off his junior campaign, is currently in Coral Gables for the Hurricanes’ U Day and made his college decision known Sunday afternoon.
In addition to Miami, Roberts has scooped up a handful of scholarship offers from South Carolina, Penn State, Cincinnati and Maryland among others. Roberts’ teammate and big-time 2016 linebacker, Shaq Quarterman, is a Miami commit that’s already signed a grant-in-aid agreement with the Hurricanes.
A number of different things factored into Roberts’ early pledge, including Miami’s rich tradition and ability to send player after player to the NFL ranks. He loves the city of Miami and says he’ll be playing “football in paradise” as well. The U was the total package for this defender out of Clay County.
Roberts is a well-rounded prospect that does a little bit of everything in the secondary. The three-star prospect is a striker that racked up 63 total tackles (41 solo) a season ago. Roberts was just as effective in pass coverage and recorded an eye-popping seven interceptions as well. [More…]

#12 Ahman Ross

HT/WT/40: 5-11/198/

DB
The Bolles School
(Jacksonville, FL)9/19/15 – Edging out Florida State, Al Golden and Miami have reeled in a commitment from one of the state’s top junior defensive backs in Ahman Ross.
Jimbo Fisher and Florida State had been the early front-runners in Ahman Ross’ recruitment for quite sometime, but it was another in-state institution that hit the jackpot and scooped up the defensive back’s commitment late Saturday evening.
Ross, a 2017 defensive back who plays his high school football for coach Corky Rogers and Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles, has found a home and is slated to suit up for Al Golden and the University of Miami nearly two years from now.
The 5-foot-11.5, 185-pound Ross had a front row seat for the U’s overtime thriller vs. the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, and found no reason to wait following his brief pit stop in the 305. [More…]

#44 Jon Ford

HT/WT/40: 6-5/250/4.80

DT/DE
Dillard HS
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)1/30/16 – Ford, who was initially offered by the previous coaching staff, quickly became a top target for Mark Richt and the new staff. At 6’5″ 260lbs, Ford has very good size and will only continue to develop. While he only has 14 offers at the current moment, Ford is a very talented p_layer_, a high 4-star prospect who figures to end up with 40+ offers at the end of his senior year.
Ford has elite level talent, and the thought of him develop under the watchful and seasoned eye of DL coach Craig Kuligowski is something all Miami fans should be excited about. There are still 12+ months before his signing day, but Ford is the kind of player who can end up being the foundation of the 2017 recruiting class.
Ford plays both DE and DT at the high school level, and could develop nicely at either spot moving forward. He is the 11th commit in the 2017 class, and the 1st defensive lineman in that group.

Columbus HS
(Miami, FL)2/16/16 – Gibson (6-1, 185) gave his pledge to Mark Richt during an unofficial visit to UM on Tuesday afternoon.

Gibson says his next order of business is recruiting two of his Southridge teammates, cornerback Shawn Davis and linebacker Nadarius Fagan to join him at Miami.
“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure they join me at Miami,” Gibson said. “I’m going to be recruiting them hard.”

HT/WT/40: 6-0/166/4.99

WR
Southridge HS
(Miami, FL)3/7/16 – The Miami Hurricanes have landed a significant recruiting win in 4-star receiver Rodney Scott, who has committed to The U over Florida and Alabama, per Ryan Bartow of 247Sports.
“It’s my hometown,” Scott said, according to Bartow. “They kept in contact the most. Why put on for a team out of state when I can for my home state team?”
During a recent interview with Nate Adelson of 247Sports, Scott shared he was looking at the depth chart and academics as main factors in selecting a program—with a preference toward an in-state school.
Miami definitely checked off each of those boxes for the wideout rated 312th overall and No. 46 at his position, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Rashawn Scott and Herb Waters exhausted their eligibility after the 2015 season, Tyre Brady elected to transfer and D’Mauri Jones left the program. Following the 2016 campaign, Stacy Coley and Malcolm Lewis will graduate.
When the Southridge product arrives, his top competition will be Braxton Berrios, Lawrence Cager and a trio of 4-star 2016 signees in Sam Bruce, Ahmmon Richards and Dionte Mullins.
Additionally, Miami—along with Florida—is considered a top academic institution in the state, per US News & World Report. Scott visited the Coral Gables campus on Feb. 20 for junior day. [More…]

#74 Kadeem Telfort

HT/WT/40: 6-6/315/5.56

OL
Norland HS
(Miami, FL)2/27/15 – The Miami Hurricanes have landed a commitment from a BIG local prospect for the 2017 class. Offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort, a 6’6-315 sophomore, has committed to the Canes. Telfort was one of the top prospects on Miami’s board for 2017 and was very highly sought after by Miami’s coaches. One former member of the football staff told me that they believe Telfort is a better prospect than former 4-star recruit and current Cane, Trevor Darling. Telfort had always said that Miami was his dream school and decided to commit the day after he received an offer. Telfort always talks about former Cane and future first round pick Ereck Flowers, who wore #74 at Norland High School, the same number and school as Telfort.

— Kadeem Telfort ® (@Nosackzone___) February 27, 2015
Kadeem Telfort is a huge addition to the Canes’ 2017 class that is starting to heat up. Miami now has 5 commits for 2017, running backs Robert Burns and Bentavious Thompson, quarterback Todd Centeio, linebacker Tyler Dunning, and now offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort. Telfort has the talent and physical ability to be one of the top prospects in the entire country. Kadeem Telfort is very athletic for his size and can play on both sides of the line. This is a big time get for the Canes.

TE/DE
Tampa Catholic HS
(Tampa, FL)6/16/15 – While in the midst of a campus tour on the University of Miami’s campus on Tuesday, tight end Tre McKitty saw enough and decided that the best decision was to pull the trigger and commit to Al Golden’s program in Coral Gables. The seventh commitment in the Hurricanes’ class of 2017, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound McKitty is equipped with several Power Five offers in addition to Miami.
One student-athlete that’s certainly proved his worth this offseason is Tre McKitty, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end out of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic who’s oozing with potential and athleticism heading into his junior campaign with the Crusaders.
A high-character individual off the field as well, McKitty has been flashing his skill-set at 7-on-7 events and camps since making the switch from Wesley Chapel (Fla.) High earlier this offseason.
Collegiate programs have began to take notice and are enamored with McKitty’s size and athleticism combo for a prospect sailing into their junior year, including Miami.
