chain. Baseball-Reference.com has “N.Y. Ray” transferring
from Ithaca College to the U, but it’s believed this is
incorrect (although “Cali Ray” Borowicz was a ‘Cane
in this same timeframe
). This namesake’s Dad, Raymond
Stanley Borowicz Sr., known as “Skip,” also played
minor league baseball (from 1941-43), and coached with
the Cleveland Indians and at the Univ. of Buffalo.

Michigan), Schaap sent out a form letter to 6 “Southern Majors,”
including Miami. A 1000-yd. rusher with another 354 yds. on 35
catches as a HS SR. on a 9-0 team at a HS only 3 years old, Steve
was looking for a football scholarship at a warm weather college.
Florida, Oklahoma & Alabama didn’t respond; FSU wrote they had
no scholarships left; and Auburn said no after getting ahold of his HS
game-film. However, Coach Walt Kichefski invited him to the U
and ended up making him an offer – which he accepted on the spot.
